Isla Salango, Spondylus reef:
Around this mysterious Island, 5 km south of Puerto López, you can observe more than 250 types of fish which live around the reefs. You can visit in this little fishing village an archaeological museum.
Río Blanco and the trek of “Bola de Oro”:
A hike or horseback ride into the heart of the jungle, heralded by howling monkeys and many other animals, with an air of mystery It is one of the most pleasant trails. It stars from Rio Blanco and goes through a real natural paradise with beautiful crystal-clear waterfalls and exuberant vegetation.
Agua Blanca Community:
Agua Blanca is interesting and a great attraction for fans of archaeology. Its dry tropical forest offers wide biodiversity and it is situated in the heart of the Machalilla National Park, 12 km away from Puerto Lopez. You can take a bath in the sulphurous lagoon. Its water has medical, curative and rejuvenating properties. The Community also organizes hiking or horseback riding excursions to the rainforest of San Sebastian.
River basin of Ayampe:
The river Ayampe is 17 km south of Puerto López. Within its extensive and attractive basin you can hike or go by horse. The rain forest is home to over a hundred different kinds of birds making it ideal for bird-watching.
Isla de la Plata:
This island is 1,5 hours away by boat from Puerto López and is also called “small Galapagos”. There you can see blue footed and masked boobies, frigates, sea lions, coral reefs and fish of various colors. Whale watching is an amazing spectacle possible between the end of June and beginning of October.
Machalilla National Park
Discover more than 135 places of ecotourism in the Machalilla National Park. The Machalilla National Park covers an area of 55.000 hectares and includes the Plata and Salango Islands. It is the only National Park with a mixture of national cultural, island and continental influences. It offers the most beautiful landscapes of the Ecuadorian coast and includes dry-equatorial and rain forests.
