Mountain-Lakes-Indean Markets-Coast (10 days)
Day 1.- Quito - Cotopaxi - Chugchilan:
Trip along the Avenue of Volcanoes to the Cotopaxi National Park. The Cotopaxi volcano (5,897 m.) is the highest active one in the world. You can reach Limpiopungo Lake at (3,830 m). Over there an impressive sightseeing of the mountains can be admired. The Province is also known for its different Indian markets and its windy plains and isolated villages where you easily find colorful and attractive farms. The road offers breathtaking Andean sceneries till Chugchilan. Accommodation.
Day 2.- Quilotoa Crater Lake :
This day offers the visit to the sulfurous Quilotoa crater. It is the opportunity to hike down to the Crater Lake and return on a mule. You can also observe the Indian communities of the area and its famous Tigua pictures. Accommodation.
Day 3.- Quilotoa - Zumbahua - Baños :
Zumbahua is a small Indian town, characterized for its interesting Indian market. Trip continues to Baños, a friendly town located at the foothills of Tungurahua Volcano. Many activities can be arranged in that area, you can choose the one you prefer: biking, hiking, trekking, horse ridding, etc. You can also visit the different waterfalls or enjoy one of its hot thermal springs. Day 4.- Baños-Riobamba:
Through countryside scenery over the valleys from Riobamba and Guaranda, our drive continues to Riobamba until 4.800 m high of the majestic Chimborazo „The Lord of the Snow“. With luck perhaps you may see some wild and shy “Vicunas”, relatives of the Llamas. Accommodation in Riobamba city.
Day 5.- Riobamba-Public Train Excursion-Guayaquil:
This is an opportunity to be part of an adventure and thrilling public train ride in all of South America. Through captivating scenery, the train makes its way to the Devil's Nose, a rock face that is several hundred feet tall and requires the train to zigzag carefully up the mountain. The ride then continues through a narrow river canyon. After the train ride, we continue to Guayaquil.

Day 6.- Guayaquil:
City tour. The best way to discover this city is on foot, you can enjoy Parque Bolívar where you can find exotic iguanas. Enjoy the tour the “Malecon” of Guayas River to the historic neighborhood of Las Peñas, and from Santa Ana hill a complete view over the vibrant city, the slow Guayas River, and the green belt of mangroves. In the Parque Histórico, different animal species of the coastal lowlands in a natural setting might be observed. The carefully restored houses and haciendas from the era of the cocoa boom will transport you back in time to the late 19th century.
Day 7.- Ruta del Sol - Puerto López:
In the morning, you drive through the "Ruta del Sol". In Ballenita, you have a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean from a high cliff. Small fishing villages can be visited during the complete journey and beautiful and mostly rustic beaches will join us during our trip. In Salango we can visit its archaeological museum full of information about the pre-Spanish times. Accommodation in Puerto López.
Day 9.- Machalilla National Park:
Our trip includes a visit to Machalilla National Park. One of its attractions is “Playa Los Frailes”, a beautiful sandy beach in a cove which preserves its natural state. Time for swimming and relaxing or enjoy a soft hiking along the beautiful beaches. In the afternoon drive to Guayaquil, accommodation.
Day 10.- Transfer to the airport and departure for your next destination
Day 8.- Boat ride to Isla de la Plata:
Trip to La Plata Island, located about 30 km from the mainland. The island features various species of booby birds, as well as frigate birds and albatrosses. Depending on the season, you may also see some sea lions. Between June and September, the boat ride often provides a chance to observe humpback whales. Due to these characteristics, the island is also known as the “Little Galapagos” of the mainland of Ecuador.
