For adventurers we offer rafting and kayaking on the Amazon rivers, one of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of the Amazon Jungle. We also organize expeditions to explore the caves close by and their underground tunnels and water sources.

Being in the tropical rainforest means that we have lots of waterfalls and rivers. We will take you to beautiful waterfalls in the forest and huge white water rivers, where you can enjoy a nice relaxing day of bathing in a unique atmosphere…

A native guide will take you through our primary forests and show you medicinal plants that are used in the kichwa culture and endemic plants such as heliconias and bromelias.
This is a really funny tour, since you will be walking through places with lots of mud and water and will be falling once in a while. But don't worry; we have different routes and you decide which one to take from getting really dirty to just having a relaxed walk though the forest…

Petroglyphs are stone carvings of figures with carving dates or meanings that are still open questions for our culture. These petroglyphs have high spiritual meaning for the Kichwa shamans and are an essential part of this rich culture. There are different figures on every stone and an archaeological project is beginning to identify each stone and figure to preserve and inform people about the petroglyphs.

Huasquila (since it is located in the Sacred Valley of Cotundo) is part of the biggest agglomeration of petroglyphs found within the Ecuadorian Amazon Region. Only 3 km away, you can visit an archaeological park where you will be able to see these interesting stone carvings that show symbols of ancient cultures.

In the Sacred Valley of Cotundo there is a system of caves that are connected by underground tunnels. Huasquila offers you the possibility to visit them in a safe way under professional guidance and discover this fascinating underground world full of stalagmites and stalactites. In Huasquila there are also unexplored caves which offer biologists and professionals in this area a unique opportunity to discover unexplored areas. For non-professionals we offer two alternatives to visit the caves. These alternatives are available for all ages with no previous training (children included).
Lagarto Caves :

2006/01/27
Huasquila Amazon Lodge is a beautiful and original complex of bungalows located in the Ecuadorian Amazon Region within the Sumaco Biosphere Reserve. It is only a 4 hour drive (by car) away from Ecuador´s capital Quito .

At Huasquila we have 6 luxury cabins built by native people that live in close-by communities. They are constructed in Kichwa style in harmony with nature and equipped with all necessary facilities for making your stay in Huasquila an unforgettable experience.

Huasquila's restaurant has a beautiful view of the protected Amazon Jungle and offers you the best local, national and international dishes. At our bar you can enjoy a wide variety of liquors while watching the birds come by and listening to the sounds of the Amazon.
Only 5 km away from the lodge you will reach Lagarto Caves. The Kichwa community of Mondayacu manages these caves and provides a local guide. These caves are not so famous, which is the reason we recommend them as first choice since it is much more private and typical. In this cave complex you can choose between the grades of difficulty and combine the visit to a very nice canyon which you can climb up to through a cave. Huasquila arranges all details for the visit (guides, equipment, etc.) to ensure that you enjoy the best service available.

Jumandy Caves :
These caves are the most famous ones in the Valley. The legend says that the indian warrior Jumandy used the caves as his hiding place from the Spanish conquerors, where nobody could find him. They are about the same size and beauty as Lagarto Caves , but are more busy since they are more famous. We will arrange your visit to these caves that are 20 minutes away from the Lodge upon request and will advise you on any other visit you wish to make.

The region around Huasquila has become famous among kayaking and rafting fans. The gorgeous rivers of the Amazon are perfect to practice these sports and they take you into the heart of the Amazon. The region has achieved such legendary status that the World Rafting Championship 2005 took place in the close by valley of Quijos . We work with the best rafting and kayaking operators, which have very high security standards and are professionals in this area.
